About AEDV
The Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology: Science, History, and International Vision.
Founded in 1909, the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV) is Spain’s leading dermatology institution and one of the most active in Europe. It unites 97% of Spanish dermatologists, driving research, education, and collaboration to improve skin health.
Its mission: to advance dermatology and venereology, foster innovation, and respond to the specialty’s evolving challenges while staying close to its members and patients.

A Historical Legacy Driving the Present
The AEDV was founded by Dr. Juan de Azúa, Spain’s first Professor of Dermatology. Known as “La Dermatológica,” it became a center for scientific exchange through monthly meetings and its journal Actas Dermo-Sifiliográficas.
Over time, the Academy grew nationally and internationally, adopting its current name in 1966 and celebrating its centenary in 2009: a milestone that marked its transformation into a digital, global institution.

Science at the Service of Skin and Patients
Science is at the heart of AEDV’s work. The Academy supports research, professional training, and continuous improvement in clinical practice.
Through its Fundación Piel Sana (Healthy Skin Foundation), it promotes prevention, diagnosis, and public awareness on skin health.
Its journal, Actas Dermo-Sifiliográficas, is a leading publication in the Spanish-speaking world, recently achieving an impact factor thanks to the efforts of authors, reviewers, and AEDV’s editorial strategy.
