CloseProfessor José Luis López Estebaranz is Head of the Department of Dermatology at Hospital Universitario Fundación Alcorcón and Medical Director of DermoMedic Medical Center in Madrid. He is also Full Professor of Dermatology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
His principal clinical and research interests include acne, photomedicine and laser therapy, psoriasis, vitiligo, and skin cancer. He has served as principal investigator or co-investigator in numerous publicly funded research projects supported by Spanish national agencies, including the FIS and the Ministry of Education and Science, in areas such as skin cancer, systemic sclerosis, poxvirus infections, psoriasis, and acne. As a member of the Spanish Psoriasis Group, he has contributed to Spanish clinical guidelines on psoriasis and acne, as well as to the European evidence-based acne guidelines. He has also directed CILAD’s International Master’s Programme in Aesthetic Dermatology.
Professor López Estebaranz is a member of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV), the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), the Colegio Ibero-Latinoamericano de Dermatología (CILAD), and the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). He is an honorary member of the Portuguese Society of Dermatology and Venereology and the Paraguayan Society of Dermatology. From 2014 to 2018, he chaired the AEDV’s Central Section. He subsequently served as Vice-President of CILAD from 2017 to 2022 and as President of CILAD from 2022 to 2024, after chairing the Organising Committee of the 2022 CILAD Congress in Madrid.
He has authored or co-authored more than 358 scientific papers and book chapters and has an h-index of 39. He has received several awards and distinctions from the Spanish and European dermatology academies, as well as recognition from the President of the AAD in 2017 and 2018. He serves on the editorial boards of several Spanish and international scientific journals and is the editor of eight dermatology books.
Since 2017, he has represented Spain within the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), contributing to international educational initiatives and specialist task forces. He has also directed and promoted numerous national and international dermatology congresses and educational programmes.
